The potential of Blu Ray video is being fulfilled so quickly. Even though there are titles which do not present the format in a good light, most of what’s available on the market today are excellent examples. Compared with what happened to DVD a decade before, when many discs were nothing but straight ports of VHS copies, with no improvements whatsoever in picture quality, sound quality, or, indeed, anything at all – many didn’t even offer chapter stops and played straight through in the then-familiar manner of videotapes – today’s Blu-ray catalog boasts dramatically improved video images along with digital discrete surround sound. What’s more, prices are practically the same as what’s on offer for a DVD, so there’s no reason not to switch!
